Hello,

I have a new iBook G4 laptop ( early 2004 model ) that is running
OS X.
I also have an external Firewire Hard Drive with some available
partitions.
I would like to install Linux ( PowerPC PPC ) on one of the
external Firewire Hard drive partitions.
Not on the internal Hard drive. The Internal Hard Drive in the iBook
can't be touched.

I'm using the yellowdog linux 4.0 Orion version..

BTW: How do you use that OpenFirmware stuff??
Is there a manual or tutorial??

Thanks,
CHF

Yeap, I've tried... Must be the terms or something...

All the links and pages said were either:
1) Linux on x86 PCs with external HDD
2) LinuxPPC on the internal Hard Drive but NOT the external Firewire Hard Drive.

To make a long story short, I'm pretty sure it's not going to work. It
seems that Linux will *install* just fine to a FireWire disk, but you
won't be able to boot from it since yaboot doesn't know what FireWire
disks are yet (or didn't when I last checked a few months ago, using the
iLamp G4 in my office).

The quote below was taken from distro watch
http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=02068#0

"
Mandrakelinux 10.1 for PowerPC systems has been released
...
...
A notable new feature is the ability to
install on and boot from FireWire and USB devices.
"

You might also want to read this:

I also found this link that talks about the special boot up key strokes you
might want to try out to help you with all this:
http://macslash.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/17/221208&mode=thread

I haven't tried these yet. I do hope this stuff helps.
