Any one know if the new mini macs are 64 bit? I can't seem to find
detailed specs on the G4 they are using in this unit.

Thanks,
Dan.

I don't believe there is any G4 processor with a 64 bit bus. If you
want a 64 bit bus you need a G5 Mac (of any kind), they use the IBM
970 processor (G5). The G4's are 32 bit processors in the usual sense
of the word.

What are the chances that a current Linux distro will install and run on one
of these?

It'd be fun to pick one up for novelty sake if it did.

As far as I can tell inside a mini mac there is an iBook. So I guess it
should install just fine.

I can (well, almost) hear you asking yourselves "why?". Hurd will be
out in a year (or two, or next month, who knows), and I've already got
minix.

Oh, indeed. I can get the "bigger" version for $579. Ummm...I've got a
two input source monitor (one is DVI), all I need is either another
mouse/keyboard set, or a KVM switch.

The PPC 74xx (called G4 by Apple) processors are 32-bit, not 64-bit.

I don't believe there is any G4 processor with a 64 bit bus.
The bitness of instruction-set architectures (and their
implementations as processors) refers to the size of the
general-purpose registers and the address space size, not to the width
of any busses on any particular implementation (which can vary between
implementations of the same architecture).
