Hey,

I've a problem to boot linux on my PowerMac Server G3 300 (who is an OldWord
PowerMac Beige). I can't boot in the OpenFirmare and It seem that I must apply
System Disk to apply a patch. I'vnt MacOS CD, and so I use the Disk Tools PPC
floppy to run a minimalist Mac Os. But I can't run the excutable file.
Is anybody knows how to load SystemDisk with a Disk Tools PPC floppy ?
I need to apply Patch on the NVRAM to boot linux with quik.
I haven't MacOs and I use the Disk Tools PPC floppy to boot a MacOs.

Thank for your help.

I think you will need more of a MacOS system than is on the floppy. I
don't think you can boot old world macs directly into linux. I would be
happy to be convinced otherwise. I think 8.1 is probably the earliest
system you can use on a G3 but not sure. I will try 7.6.1 on mine and
get back to you on that. If you intend to primarily run Linux the
cheaper (read older) you can go on MacOS the better I would think. You
should be able to find something on eBay for $30 US or less. What
flavor Linux are you using?

Nope. No boot from 7.6.1. 8.1 should work though and 8.6 for sure.
