Discussion:
Printing via CUPS from Classic
(too old to reply)

My son has a couple of Classic programs that run well in the
compatibility environment in 10.3. The only problem is that since they
are Classic programs, they print using that architecture. We can print
OK with that to our Laser printer through a CUPS print server since we
have a PPD for it, but our Epson 980 inkjet does not work. The job
always prints as junk if at all. What PPD can I use that will work in
Classic to CUPS? I've never seen one for and inkjet or is there
something I can on the print server to properly handle these jobs?
TIA

I assume that's the same printer...

Thanks for the reply, but how do I use this? I would think I need a PPD
on the OS 9 client. This ppd appears to be for the server. Am I wrong?

Yes, it would be. Ah, I see your dilemma, now. I would set the printer
in the Classic environment to be a color postscript printer, and then
let CUPS deal with rasterizing a PS file and spool a correct data
stream to the printer.

A quick googling shows no easy answer. If worse comes to worse, you
could try running either appletalk or LPR services, and then printing
from Classic to the localhost network connection. Kind of rude, I
suppose, but then that's what unix socket networking is all about.

OK, I see. I'll give it a try this weekend.
Thanks
