Beware of Mandrake 10.1 with OldWorld Macs
(too old to reply)

Contrary to what the docs say Mandrake 10.1 cannot be installed on
OldWorld Macs via BootX (at least it didn't work for me). It boots
into Linux but the ramdisk is mounted read-only, and that's the end of
the installation.

You might try passing the readonly flag to the kernel at startup. That
allows the system to run fsck to check for a clean shutdown and then put
the root filesystem into rw mode. If the disk is in rw mode fsck won't
check it and it will be set to read only.

I have had to do this with physical disks, I suspect, but cannot
guarantee, that it will work with the ramdisk as well.
