PowerPC 4400/200 "OldWorld" - Maxtor 7200 13 GB Drive - 96MB - Ati64 Video -
OS 9.1 -BootX App 1.2.2

After digging out my old PM 4400/200, I installed YDL 4 on it but I was
messed up by the lack of sound support. I then insalled Ubuntu 4.10 "Warty"
and it's running as best as it can. But, I am having trouble with the video
in X11. Maybe someone can help.

When Gnome or KDE (YDL) fires up the screen is yellow and purple. It
appears that my color depth is too small.. So I added the following to my
BootX Append box: video=atyfb:vmode:17,cmode:16 . The crappy part is
that I had it working ONCE and I cannot get it to work again with ANY
distro. I was also able to get 1024x768 console when my color worked. I
tried setting my color/res in OS 9.1 then running BootX to match but it
always defaults to 640x480x8. It seems that the kernel is not accepting the
arguments, but nothing had changed when it DID work. Ugh.. If I can get
this working, then maybe I can finish installing a distro properly!

Any ideas?!

Thanks!

Got it! Sheesh.. No Video Driver is CHECKED in BootX. Set X11 to
1024x768 16bpp depth (Manually edit XF86Config). :) YAY!
