Ive recently installed YDL 3.0.1 on my beig3. Im having a bit of trouble
with RPMs and dependencies however. For example, I want to install a Direct
Connect client, and Ive downloaded dcgui-0.2.5-1.ppc.rpm. It has missing
dependencies (such as dclib), which I have located and downloaded. I install
one of them, and am told e.g. I already have a newer version! If I try to
'upgrade' it says other things are missing. Its quite confusing... So I am
wondering, do I need to find this DCGUI RPM specifically compiled for my YDL
distribution?

Another thing, should I switch to Mandrake - will urpmi save me loads of
hassle?

You should try switching to Ubuntu: there you will have the largest
software database for PPC. And apt-get.
